Kuwaiti Muslim marriages are registered with the Ministry of Justice by an authorised ma'dhun, after a mandatory premarital medical examination.
Who registers the marriage
The Ministry of Justice's marriage documentation department registers the contract, with separate departments for Sunni and Ja'fari marriages.
Typical steps
- 1
Complete the premarital medical examination at a Ministry of Health centre.

Book an appointment with the Ministry of Justice marriage department or an authorised ma'dhun.
- 3
Agree the mahr and any conditions with both families.
- 4
Conclude the contract with the wali and two witnesses, then collect the marriage certificate.

- Embassy certificate of no objection for a non-Kuwaiti spouse
Viktiga anteckningar
Kuwaiti citizens marrying non-Kuwaitis may need additional approvals. Documents issued abroad must be attested by the Kuwaiti embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
