Nikah-dokument i Germany
In Germany, a marriage is legally valid only when concluded at the registry office (Standesamt). A nikah alone creates no legal rights, so couples usually marry at the Standesamt and hold the nikah separately.
Who registers the marriage
The Standesamt where one partner lives registers the intention to marry and performs the civil ceremony.
Typical steps

Register your intention to marry at the Standesamt — the registration is valid for six months.

Foreign nationals usually need a certificate of no impediment (Ehefähigkeitszeugnis) or an exemption from the Higher Regional Court.

Book the civil ceremony; witnesses are optional.

Hold the nikah with the wali, witnesses, and mahr, and keep the civil marriage certificate safe.

The minimum age to marry in Germany is 18. Registration can take weeks when foreign documents need checking, so start early.
